Assemblywoman Weinberg's Statement

March 1, 2002
Statement of Assemblywoman Loretta Weinberg on A 1948

"We teach our children to treat others with respect. Yet, some of us handle animals as though they were inanimate objects. Well, they aren't "things." They feel and suffer too. This contradiction between what we teach and what we do is not lost on our children. It has been shown that animal cruelty at an early age can lead to violent crime as an adult. I hope my colleagues in the New Jersey State Legislature recognize the physical and emotional needs of calves and require that they be treated humanely."
