Rally
- Held April 8, 2002
Celebrity advocate Mary Tyler Moore, political and policy
leaders and noted animal activists urged New Jersey to be the
first state in America to ban cruel farming practices.
Among the inhumane systems which have been outlawed in other
countries and which should be prohibited in New Jersey
are veal crates for calves, gestation crates for breeding
pigs, and battery cages for egg-laying hens. These systems are
inherently cruel, and they can not be accepted under the "humane
standards" mandated in New Jersey.
The ‘Rally Against Factory Farming' began at 10 a.m. on Monday
morning, April 8, at the New Jersey State Capitol at 125 West
State Street in downtown Trenton, and it ended at 12 noon. After
the rally, NJ citizens were encouraged to visit the offices of
their state legislators to urge them to support humane treatment
standards for farm animals.
